We learn that ICAI periodically reviews the scheme of Education and Training to remain in tandem with developments in the field of education and other changes at national and global level. As evolving business also demands newer skills from the accounting professionals. Accordingly, the existing scheme was revamped and the new scheme of Education was launched on 13th September, 2006. We understand that under the new scheme, a student need to Enroll with ICAI for Common Proficiency Test (CPT) after passing Class X / XII examination.

After enrolling for the CPT exam, a student can however appear for the CPT examination after appearing in the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination) conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto and after completion of specified period (i.e. 60 days) from the date of registration for CPT prior to the first day of the month in which examination to be held with the Board of Studies. We understand that CPT is an entry level test for Chartered Accountancy Course. It is a test of four subjects i.e., Accounting, Mercantile Laws, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude. This test is of 200 marks. This test is divided into two sessions of two hours each with a break in between. CPT is currently being conducted as an objective type examination with negative marking.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A student who has passed Common Proficiency Test (CPT) and Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination) conducted by an examination body constituted by law in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto may join the Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC). CA IPCC with an upgraded syllabus has replaced Professional Education (PE - II) (Course -II) effective from September 13, 2006. CA IPCC is first stage of the chartered accountancy curriculum wherein only working knowledge of core and allied subjects to accountancy profession is covered, while at the CA Final course, advanced application knowledge of core and allied subjects to accountancy profession has been intended to be inculcated. The last leg of the Chartered Accountancy is CA Final Course, designed to impart expert knowledge in the subjects of Financial Reporting, Strategic Financial Management, Auditing and Professional Ethics, Corporate Laws and Secretarial Practice, Advanced Management Accounting, Information System Control and Audit, Direct Taxation and Indirect Taxation. The Final (New) Course was launched in February 2007 and first examination under new scheme will was held in November, 2008.
Improve CA CPT Results
CA CPT Results held by ICAI, The Institute of Chartered Accountants Of India in the month of May / November every year are declared in the months of July / January respectively.
Students can check their result online or can get them delivered in their mail boxes, by registering their email id on the official website of the ICAI which publishes the result.
Further a manual list is also hanged of all successful candidates in the Regional Offices as well as the Head Office of the Institute.
CA CPT Exam is the only exam which is MCQ based and the other two higher levels of CA IPCC exam and CA Final exam are subjective in nature.
So to Improve CA CPT Results students are advised to do a lot of reference work apart from the studies which they do to clear the exam.
